Put a PayNow QR on Your Invoice and Get Paid Days Faster

Every extra step between “client decides to pay” and “money arrives” costs you days. In Singapore, the single highest-impact fix is printing a PayNow QR code on the invoice itself — yet almost no invoicing tool does it.

Why payment friction is the real reason invoices go stale

Most late payments aren’t malicious. Your invoice arrives, the client thinks “I’ll pay this later”, and later never comes — because paying means finding your bank details, typing them into a transfer form, choosing the right reference so you can reconcile it, and double-checking the amount. Five small frictions, each a chance to postpone.

A PayNow QR collapses all of that into one action: open banking app → scan → confirm. The amount and the invoice number are already embedded in the QR, so the payment arrives correct and pre-referenced. There’s no faster legitimate way to move money between Singapore bank accounts, and it costs neither side any fees.

How does a PayNow QR actually work?

PayNow QRs follow the SGQR/EMVCo standard — a structured payload that encodes who to pay (your UEN for a business, or your mobile number for an individual), the amount, a reference, and a checksum. Any Singapore banking app reads it natively. Because it’s an open standard, the QR can be generated entirely offline — no payment processor, no middleman touching your money. The client’s bank pays your bank directly.

That last point matters: a QR on your invoice is not a payment gateway. Nobody takes a percentage. It’s simply your bank details, the amount, and the reference expressed in a scannable form.

UEN or mobile number?

If you have a registered business, receive by UEN — payments land in your business account and your invoice looks the part. Freelancers without a registered entity can receive by mobile number linked to their personal bank account. Both work identically for the payer.

What about clients who don’t scan?

Keep your regular bank transfer details on the invoice too. The QR is an accelerator, not a replacement — corporate finance teams may still pay by GIRO or transfer. In practice, small-business and individual clients overwhelmingly take the QR path once it’s offered.

Try it in 2 minutes: the Invoice Generator builds the PayNow QR into your invoice automatically — enter your UEN or mobile number and the QR carries the exact total and invoice number. Generated entirely in your browser; we never see your details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to put a PayNow QR on an invoice?

Yes — the QR contains only what’s already on your invoice: who to pay, the amount and the reference. It cannot pull money from anyone; the payer always confirms in their own banking app.

Can the client change the amount when scanning?

The QR on our invoices locks the amount to the invoice total, so what’s scanned is what’s paid — which also keeps your reconciliation clean.

Does this work for Malaysia?

Malaysia’s equivalent is DuitNow QR. Our generator’s Malaysia preset handles SST invoice wording today, with DuitNow QR support on the roadmap.
