How to play
- Find two tiles with the same picture and click them one after the other. Both disappear.
- You can only use a tile if nothing sits on top of it and its left or right side is open. Greyed-out tiles are blocked.

π How to Play Mahjong Solitaire
The whole game is one simple idea: find two tiles that look the same and click them both. They vanish. Do that until the table is empty.
- Look for a matching pair. Two tiles with the same picture or number go together.
- Check the tile is usable. You can only take a tile if nothing is stacked on top of it and its left or right side is clear. Tiles you can’t take are greyed out, so you never have to guess.
- Click one tile, then the other. Both disappear and the tiles underneath become free.
- Clear all 144 tiles to win. Stuck? Hint shows you a pair and Shuffle mixes up whatever is left.
Two small exceptions: the four flower tiles all match each other, and the four season tiles all match each other. Everything else needs its exact twin.

Mahjong Strategy Tips
- Open the long rows first. The middle row of the turtle blocks the most tiles β matches there unlock more of the board than edge matches.
- Take the top of the pyramid early. The crown tile and the 2Γ2 layer under it cover the centre β clear them before they trap pairs below.
- When three of a kind are free, pick carefully. Match the two that unblock the most tiles; the wrong pair can bury the fourth copy.
- Watch the wings. The single tile on the far left and the two on the far right block whole rows β free them as soon as their matches appear.

What is the difference between mahjong solitaire and real mahjong?
Mahjong solitaire is a single-player matching game played with the 144 tiles of a mahjong set stacked in a layout. Traditional mahjong is a four-player table game with completely different rules. This page is the solitaire version.
Can every deal be solved?
Yes. Deals are generated by placing matching pairs in reverse removal order, so a winning sequence always exists. You can still get stuck by matching in the wrong order β Undo and Shuffle get you moving again.
Why can’t I select a tile?
Dimmed tiles are locked: another tile is on top, or both long sides are blocked. Clear the neighbours first β a tile needs its top and at least one side open before it can be matched.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes β the board resizes to your screen and tiles are tap-friendly. It works in any modern browser on phone, tablet or desktop, with no app to install.
