How to play
  1. Goal: fill the four boxes at the top right, each with one suit in order โ€” Ace, 2, 3 โ€ฆ up to King.
  2. In the columns, put cards in falling order and swap colours each time โ€” a red 7 goes on a black 8.
  3. The four empty boxes at the top left each hold one card while you dig. Keep them free โ€” the more that are empty, the more cards you can move at once.
  4. Click a card, then click where it should go. Double-click sends it somewhere sensible for you.

๐Ÿƒ How to Play FreeCell

Every card is face up from the start โ€” nothing is hidden. Fill the four boxes at the top right, one per suit from Ace up to King, and you’ve won.

  1. Move a card by clicking it, then clicking where it should go. Double-click and the game finds a sensible spot for you.
  2. In the columns, count downwards and swap colours โ€” a red 7 goes on a black 8, just like normal solitaire.
  3. The four boxes at the top left are your parking spaces. Each holds one card while you dig out what’s buried underneath it.
  4. Empty those parking spaces again as soon as you can. The more that are free, the bigger the group of cards you’re allowed to move at once.

Good news for beginners: almost every FreeCell deal can be won, so if you’re stuck it’s a puzzle to solve, not bad luck. Undo as much as you like.

FreeCell Strategy Tips

  • Keep the free cells free. Your maximum move size is (empty cells + 1) ร— 2 per empty column โ€” a clogged cell row cuts your options in half.
  • Dig out the Aces and 2s first. Plan the whole excavation before your first move โ€” everything is face up, so the information is all there.
  • Empty a column before you empty cells. An empty column is worth roughly two free cells and can hold a whole run.
  • Don’t strand high cards. A King parked on a short column blocks it forever โ€” move Kings only onto columns you’re willing to give up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this FreeCell game free?

Yes โ€” unlimited free games, no download, no account, no purchases. It runs entirely in your browser.

Is every FreeCell deal winnable?

Almost โ€” over 99.99% of random FreeCell deals are solvable with perfect play, which is why FreeCell rewards planning more than luck. Unwinnable deals exist but are extremely rare.

How many cards can I move at once?

(Empty free cells + 1), doubled for every empty column. With all four cells free and one empty column you can move a run of ten. The game calculates this automatically when you try a move.

What’s the difference between FreeCell and Klondike solitaire?

FreeCell deals everything face up with no stock, so it’s a pure strategy game โ€” nearly every deal is winnable. Klondike hides cards and deals from a stock, so luck plays a much bigger role.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes โ€” the eight columns scale to your screen and all moves are tap-based. Works in any modern browser.
